When it comes to swimwear, Christians should be modest because modesty is closer to godliness. That goes for all clothing because the Bible does not address swimwear specifically. Swimwear is given special attention, because the trend has been to show more and more skin.
Here are a couple of relevant Bible passages. In I Timothy 2:9-10, it says:
“Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works.”
In 1 Corinthians 6:19, it says:
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.”
Modesty is a matter of judgment. One knows if (s)he is immodest. It is felt within one’s self and noticed in the reaction of others. If you are using it to attract a mate, you will attract the wrong people. It will be the reason for short relationships and even one night stands. The value of women, as well as men comes from within, not outward appearance. Yet, modest swimwear for Christians are not readily available. Websites are your best bet. Stores will have more of what sells best. If you go shopping, you may have to look for a store that sells only clothing to get a good variety of modest swimsuits.
Christian shoppers and vendors can reverse this trend. Christian shoppers should buy only modest swimsuits. Look for them. They are there. Vendors should accommodate them. There is a market for fashionable modest swim attire.
